Mobile Gaming: Daytona Rush.

Thought I would step away from the real world motorsport for a moment and give you all my opinions on this nifty little mobile game from Invictus.

Daytona Rush is a fairly basic but none the less fun arcade style "racer" for your phone or tablet device. The aim is simple, overtake many cars on the oval raceway by tapping or swiping the screen left or right to move your car, avoid other cars, make fuel stops when required and pick up repairs when you can if you have experienced contact. The more cars you pass the more money you make, the more money you make the more upgrades to the engine (faster car, better fuel economy), drive train (better lane changing), and bodywork (more resilient to contact) to improve overall performance.

There are also various challenges to meet during the races well, I say races you are not scored on a position and as far as I have played you cannot win a race as you seem to just continue around the oval until you hit too many other cars resulting in a NASCAR Talladega style pile up! The more challenges - such as pass 125 cars in one race, travel 20,000 ft or use pit lane 5 times you complete the closer you get to opening up further levels in the game and, coupled with the credits earned the better the car you can buy. Now, this is it would seem an American developed game - not that I have a problem with that so the cars you can unlock are either NASCAR style stock, modified and pickup racers or an Indy Car style single seater.

The game is very simple but frustratingly difficult at the same time, an easy half hour time waster if sat in traffic (as long as you are not driving obviously) or waiting trackside between races. One of the best features is the lack of adverts, this is a free game an there are no pop up banners across the screen (on the andriod version anyway) the option comes at the end of the race when you have the chance to double your points by watching a 30 sec video, and if you have hit a good score chances are you will.

I am in no way affiliated with the game or the designers, I just found it via recommendation and am passing that on, if you enjoy a simple, addictive and at the same time frustrating Space Invaders meets Days of Thunder style game then this may well be just the thing, its a free download, must be worth a look.
